Wellness and nutrition are important for healing; Toys and music heal too, CAVS autograph gifts

First annual child life toy drive (2011) at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital.

Christmas time is a time of giving, joy, and peace.  As we enter our 4th annual child life toy drive, it reminds me that patients need more than medicine for healing.  Active lifestyle and nutrition are certainly important, but the greatest present to a child during Christmas is your presence.

In that first and second years, volunteers knitted hundreds of hats for babies and children, while donations including the large stuffed animal tiger kept children company during their times of surgery.  This year, Cleveland Cavaliers donated an autographed packet of gifts, some lucky child will be getting an autographed souvenir by LeBron James and the other CAVS basketball players.  Go Cavs!  Last year Cleveland Indians baseball team donated a couple of autographed souvenirs for children at Hillcrest Hospital (a Cleveland Clinic children’s hospital).

Groundz dedication for organic waste recycling for wellness has led us to pursue a new initiative with local food and nutrition.  Christmas brings a different type of wellness:  Our collaboration with our organizations in which we recycle organic waste with also share in giving; Groundz delivers toy donations, this year for babies and children at UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.

At UH Rainbow Babies we are featuring Soul’D Out Band, known for their annual Christmas concert at “Mocktail Party” a MADD gala event.  If you live in the western suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio feel free to donate new toys/gifts of UH Rainbow’s Child Life Wish List at Seven Hills Recreation Center by Tuesday, December 16 or contact either Cleveland Clinic or UH Rainbow for giving throughout the year.
