What an eggscellent gift I’ve received.

Riddle me this: what is chock full of calcium, provides important nutrients to your compost pile and is inside this plastic bag?

That is an eggscellent question with an eggstra-ordinary answer. Ok, ok, enough with the egg jokes already. If you haven’t figured it out by now, egg shells are a great addition to your compost pile because of the calcium carbonate they contain. We love using as many egg shells as we can get to provide a 1-2 punch of calcium and nitrogen (egg shells and coffee grounds).

This bag was given to me by a friend who remembered me saying how important egg shells are for our compost piles. She has been saving them up for weeks!

One last note: please crush your shells before mixing them into your pile. This will speed up the decomposition.
