Cleveland Botanical Garden’s Buckeye Farm Cornstalk Season

Happy Autumn! At our Cleveland Botanical Garden’s Buckeye Farms we incorporated their latest farm waste: Cornstalks.

This month we have cornstalks that were mixed with coffee grounds, espresso, brewery waste from Great Lakes Brewery, and previously composted material. Not only are we recycling Buckeye’s own organic waste, but we have thus far recycled 1,660 pounds of coffee grounds at this composting site, only occupying 1/3 of our available composting space within our first 100 square foot Ohio EPA Class II waste exemption space.

The food waste we bring to this urban farm successfully mixes with their farmyard wastes. Groundz Recycling composts all Buckeye Farm’s own waste, right onsite. Actually these cornstalks (Photo above) can also make an attractive autumn bouquet.

Cleveland Botanical Garden is hosting their 4th Annual Ripe! Festival September 21-22, “Feed Your Senses.” Purchasing tickets in advance:For members, tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children; non-member tickets are $11 for adults and $6 for children. Check out Ripe! for more details.
